Queen of the Damned: Music from the Motion Picture is the original motion picture soundtrack to the 2002 vampire horror film Queen of the Damned, which was released on March 1, 2002 through Warner Music Group. The soundtrack was produced by Richard Gibbs and Jonathan Davis of American nu metal band Korn. The original motion picture soundtrack to the film is Jonathan Davis's first musical output outside of Korn.
The film, and the soundtrack, actually manage to do something that can’t easily be done: it ties nu metal and gothic elements. One of the prime examples of this is when the androgynous vampires in the bar are all killed by Akasha, who is played by Aaliyah. While their blood sheds all over the walls, low, crunching nu metal is playing. And for once, the feeling it conveys is true carnage. One of the biggest diseases to strike albums is having most of the best songs at the beginning of the album, and then generally decreasing quality as the album progresses. Queen Of The Damned is an okay movie, but the screenwriting is poor, not to mention the second-rate acting (except for Jonathan’s cute little cameo as the scalper). I immediately thought that score and soundtrack were the best thing about the film, and that is why the soundtrack is in fact better than the movie.
Dominating the film’s sound are original compositions by guitar virtuoso Steven Hufsteter (Repo Man, Machete), with lush Morricone infused love themes giving way to dark intense synth odysseys breaking into gorgeous baroque pieces, and ripping guitar showdowns, all fit for the most hardcore vampire and soundtrack lovers. LP includes a 18 24 award winning poster from the film and a digital download card for the album! Toss in a breathtaking score from Steven Hufsteter (and great source music), and you have a film that is as much a body blow to the senses as it is a true blue horror film. One of the most memorable aspects of Kiss Of The Damned is perhaps the least-likely place of all – it’s killer soundtrack. Steven Hufsteter’s score for the film is excellent: a love letter to the synth of many of the greatest horror films from the 70s.
