Emil Gilels - Mozart / Brahms / Debussy - Mozart Brahms Debussy mp3 album
Emil Gilels in Prague. Mozart, Debussy, Stravinsky. Fortunately enough, Gilels' visit to Prague in May 1973 did not remain the exclusive property of the decaying memories of those who were then lucky to have the chance to actually listen to and applaud his performances; rather, it has left behind a lasting trace in the form of a recording. It is now presented to the general public, coupled here with a library recording of a Mozart sonata. Itis certain to attract a wide circle of admirers still today, 19 years from the artist's death. Great Russian pianist Emil Gilels at the 1973 Prague Spring Festival. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Album title: Collection: Emil Gilels. Composer(s): Brahms, Debussy, Mozart, Rondo, Stravinsky. Works: Piano Sonata in F, K533; Rondo, K494; Fantasies, Op. 116; Images, Book 1; Three Movements from Petrushka. Performer: Emil Gilels (piano). The applause is hardly hysterical but it does warm up. In Mozart’s last F major Sonata, Gilels is immaculate and a bit inscrutable, though the refined differentiation of his touch saves the performance from becoming boring. Wrong notes in the more vigorous Brahms pieces might have passed unnoticed in the excitement of the occasion, and the quiet second piece is really beautiful – as pure as spring water. Gilels had a sense of grandeur tempered by discipline and respect for the text. The Debussy pieces are quite properly conceived in big terms, not precious but not insensitive

Gilels played a varied recital of Mozart, Brahms, Debussy and Stravinsky. As usual, his recording displays his sensitivity and beauty. The Mozart sonata on this CD was new to me. I was totally engaged by this performance. Gilels' tone is round and pleasing and his phrasing is pristine. Gilels always had a special affinity for Brahms. His performance of the 2nd concerto with Jochum still ranks as one of the most beautiful ever recorded. More than any other pianist, there is an inner peace - a deep inner beauty - that Gilels manages to convey
