Of course, if the performances were poor, the money would be wasted. However, that is not the case here. Maestro Jordan and his famous Swiss orchestra have produced one of the finest Schumann sets I have ever heard. First of all, the playing is superb with lots of warmth, great solo work and top notch precision. The interpretations are what I would call full-bodied romantic.

The Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54 was completed in the year 1845 and is the only piano concerto written by the German Romantic composer Robert Schumann. The work was premiered in Dresden on December 4, 1845. Schumann had earlier worked on several piano concerti: he began one in E-flat major in 1828, from 1829–31 he worked on one in F major, and in 1839, he wrote one movement of a concerto in D minor. None of these works were completed.

Manfred: Dramatic Poem with Music in Three Parts (Opus 115), is a work of incidental music by Robert Schumann. The work is based on the poem Manfred by Lord Byron and consists of an overture, an entracte, melodramas, and several solos and choruses. Written primarily in 1848, it was first performed at the Gewandhaus concert at Leipzig on March 14, 1852. The most highly regarded piece in the work is the Overture.
