John Winters - Organ Moods: John Winters At The Mighty Wurlitzer Organ mp3 album

The "Mighty Wurlitzer" theatre organ was introduced in late 1910 and became Wurlitzer's most famous product. American Mohawk Lyric Radio as Mfd. by Wurlitzer circa 1920s. Circa 1933, the Wurlitzer name gradually became more associated with jukeboxes than with musical instruments. In 1942, organ production at the North Tonawanda factory ceased and production was shifted to the manufacture of bomb proximity fuses for World War II. After the war, normal production efforts resumed but with more focus on radios, jukeboxes, and small electronic organs for private homes. Wurlitzer Model 44 electrostatic reed organ (1953–64).

Reviews about John Winters - Organ Moods: John Winters At The Mighty Wurlitzer Organ (2):
This is my favorite album of all time! What can I say, as a musician myself I am blown away by John Winters mastery of the organ. His 40 plus year career as a radio and TV soap opera organist gave him thousands and thousands of hours to perfect his musicianship beyond that of any I have ever heard. More than a perfect technician alone, John's ability to take the listener wherever he desires in terms of mood is truly magical. John Winters is actually not even playing a Wurlitzer organ as the title of this Lp suggests, but instead mid 1950's CONN all-vacuum tube organ ( Vacuum tube Individual oscillator, or VI, where each key on the keyboard is represented by it's very own oscillator. The effect is very rich and gives the organ a more pipe organ, or choir like ensemble). I know this from much diligence and research. I have acquired and played every Wurlitzer model made from 1946 to 1979 in terms of tone generation ( the heart of any organ is it's tone generation system)- Electrostatic Free Reed 46'-53', Electrostatic Free Reed 54'-61', Transistor Divider 64'-76', Master Oscillator LSI (Large Scale Integrated circuits) 77'-79'. Ironically, the only Wurlitzer I have not owned or played ( but am very familiar with the circuits) is the Vacuum Tube Divider type ( where 12 oscillators are created- one for each note group of the 12 note scale, then these are divided electronically). Were it not for the fact that I distinctly hear the solenoid combination action of the organ, and know that Wurlitzer electronic organs have only passive mechanical action for changing voice registrations ( AKA flipping tabs for Flute,Reed,String,Diapason voices), I might assume the organ John played was a Wurlitzer organ, but it was not...for the CONN CLASSIC 810-825 vacuum tube VI organs DO HAVE solenoid combination action ( you can hear it on the album in a few places as louder chonky reverberated clicks). Owning a CONN 815 CLASSIC ( 1958 model) I can hear the that it's combination action is identical to what I hear onn the organ. Let alone for the fact that the organ sounds identical. Right down to it's add-on REPEAT PERCUSSION which allows piano and harp effects to be possible. My organ has this too, as I was lucky to find the add-on unit not long after rescuing the Conn Classic 815 from a landfill. Now I can not only listen to this great record, but I can play it on my organ as well:)Note: John Winters is the same John Winters who helped to establish PILATES ( exercise program), as John was Mr. Pilates right hand man, and John opened the very first Pilates center. I wish I could find ANYTHING on Johns organ playing besides the brief biography of where and when he worked. Want to know what organs he played in particular. Unfortunately there are no John Winters albums available besides a duplicate of this one, but under a different title ( same recording exactly as Organ Moods).
You may also enjoy an album, "The Power Of The Organ" 1963, by Robert Owen, famed worldwide organist (instructor) it is on RCA SPS-33-190 ... done on Gress-Miles organ, at Church of ChristBronxville, NY.. Three Manuals, Five Divisions, Sixty Eight Ranks, and 3,877 pipes... It is... simply, Moving ! Enjoy, and Keep playing the music ! ! !
