Taking the Wheel is the second studio album by Australian singer David Campbell. The album was released in September 1997. There are three generations of songwriters represented on the recording - from musical theater masters like George Gershwin, Burton Lane to pop icons of more recent years like Paul Simon and Peter Allen and a new generation of writers.

David covered "Grateful" and "Taking the Wheel" on his album titled "Taking the Wheel. He also supplied vocals to the animated film "Joseph, King of Dreams" with musical score by John Bucchino ("Better Than I" came from this film. Sony then acquired David through releasing the SHOUT! THE MUSICAL CD in 2001. A false start with an unreleased rock album in 2003 was followed by the two SWING albums in 2006 and 2007, two pop retrospective albums and a tribute to Broadway in 2010. These were a varied set of very enjoyable albums. Now, in 2014, David returns to the cabaret roots with 11 of the art songs written by John Bucchino and what a great return! This is David on his own label doing what he is most comfortable doing.

In 1997, David Campbell's second album was released, "Taking the Wheel". In 2003, David released two mainstream singles, "Hope" and "When She's Gone". A full-length album "A Better Place" was planned but never materialized. In 2005, another single, "End of the World" was released In the Australian and New Zealand version of Disney's 2016 animated film Zootopia, Campbell voices a Koala news anchor.
