Freescha - Head Warlock Double Stare mp3 album

Head Warlock Double Stare is the fourth studio album by electronic music group Freescha, released September 19, 2006 on Attack Nine Records. Testing the Jammer" - 1:01. Old Ace for Duke of Slade" - 2:12. Where All Good Squishes Go" - 2:38. Phantom, Strike The Disco Down!" - 2:52. Death Battle 2: Call of the Haunted (Return of Sawlord - Baby Tiger)" - 2:49. Killer on the Ride" - 3:30.

There are individual tracks on "Head Warlock Double Stare" that far surpass the beauty of anything on WCIOY, but as a whole it falls just short of its predecessor. HWDS is musically very similar, but replaces the porn influence with that of horror and thriller B-movies. Freescha's music is (at this point) far too happy and upbeat to reflect what is scary in those films, so instead it reflects their other beloved aspects: camp, atmosphere, bad humor, and good-looking actors/actresses in skimpy clothing

This is the only sound artist who uses filters like instruments. Boards of Canada is an obvious comparison, but this is bold and in-your-face sound work, and is less focused on the melancholic, memory centric strains of BOC. For those who dig Christ., Bola, Apparat, Fennesz and even more recent NIN and Crystal Method, you'll find a lot to love in this sonic playground. Watch this kid. My guess is there are bigger, better splashes to come.

Freescha's last album, "What's Come Inside of You," was such a phenomenal piece of work that I've practically been aching for this follow-up album for over 2 years. Is it possible to live up to that kind of anticipation? There are individual tracks on "Head Warlock Double Stare" that far surpass the beauty of anything on WCIOY, but as a whole it falls just short of its predecessor. HWDS is musically very similar, but replaces the porn influence with that of horror and thriller B-movies. Freescha's music is (at this point) far too happy and upbeat to reflect what is scary in those films, so instead it reflects their other beloved aspects: camp, atmosphere, bad humor, and good-looking actors/actresses in skimpy clothing. Freescha's music has always been about beauty and fun (I'm sure the California influence has something to do with that), and this album is no different. Perhaps the only drawback of this album is that the majority of tracks clock in at less than 3 minutes, and as a result, melodies and beats that really strike one's fancy are over quickly, leaving the listener a bit too hungry for more. "Old Age for Duke of Slade" is IMO the biggest offender in this area, and would sound nice if it were extended by double or even triple, letting the musical ideas therein be fleshed out that much more. How about a related EP of extended versions and remixes, guys? It'd be a great place to release that excellent cover of Moby's 'Spiders'... Am I being too greedy? When it comes to Freescha, I suppose I always will be.
