There are many famous actors and entertainers appearing in the show, many fresh from Broadway or what was left of vaudeville; they were introducing their acts to the new audiences that sound provided. What a thrill to see and hear all of this wonderful entertainment. And Joan gets to hang with Buster Keaton!
Leading man Charles King was imported from the New York stage, as were many other theater actors once the dawn of sound rocked Hollywood. King had achieved success on Broadway as far back as 1908, most recently in "Hit the Deck" (1927) and "Present Arms" (1928). 4 of 4 found this interesting Interesting?
Film: The Hollywood Revue of 1929Format: Turner Classic Movies on rockin’ flatscreen. This is going to be rough. While many of the musical numbers in that film looked unrehearsed and slapped together, they are precise and well-choreographed throughout. It sure as hell would’ve been more interesting than seeing that same Bessie Love standing on top of a ladder and not moving and then getting heaped with praise.
