Beethoven - Alfred Brendel - Pour Élise / Andante Favori / Variations / Six Ecossaises / Polonaise / Rondo A Capriccio mp3 album
Rondo a Capriccio G Major, Op. 129 "Die Wut Ueber Den Verlorenen Groschen". By Ludwig van Beethoven & Ludwig van Beethoven.
The "Rondo alla ingharese quasi un capriccio" in G major, Op. 129 (Italian for "Rondo in the Hungarian style, almost a caprice"), is a piano rondo by Ludwig van Beethoven. It is better known by the title Rage Over a Lost Penny, Vented in a Caprice (from German: Die Wut über den verlorenen Groschen, ausgetobt in einer Caprice). This title appears on the autograph manuscript, but not in Beethoven's hand, and has been attributed to his friend Anton Schindler.
Beethoven: Diabelli Variations; other variations; Fur Elise. Piotr Anderszewski - Beethoven: Diabelli Variations. Ludwig van Beethoven. Even Alfred Brendel may not approve of the Beethoven performances heard on these discs. Brendel is several decades older and wiser now, and may well find these products of his relative youth as callow as I do. The magnificent Diabelli Variations, one of Beethoven's greatest compositions, is trivialized by this undercharacterized playing, which lets so many important moments go by without saying anything special about them. Rondo a capriccio in G Major, Op. 129 "Rage over a Lost Penny". Andante in F Major, WoO 57 "Andante favori".

The Beethoven piano sonatas issued here, for instance, are the first of three complete sets of those works that Brendel recorded. That doesn't mean this package does not contain excellent performances: Brendel's Liszt sonata is brilliant and his Diabelli Variations are full of character. Alfred Brendel’s early recordings for Vanguard may long have been scorned by the pianist himself as he sought ever to refine in particular his mastery of the Classical repertoire, but they have stood the test of time. Brendel’s way with Beethoven back then was perhaps more eruptive, his Mozart less suave, and in the concertos he was accompanied by stalwarts of the music scene in postwar Vienna
