Retaining the name "The Velvet Underground," Yule assembled several new lineups of the band and toured the . By the time Yule 's VU recorded their first album, the band featured Boston-based vocalist Willie Alexander and was playing a set of conventional pop/rock songs. Squeeze appeared in 1973, and Yule broke up the band shortly after its release

Listen free to The Velvet Underground – Squeeze (Little Jack, Crash and more). Squeeze was the fifth (and last) studio album to be released under the Velvet Underground name. It was primarily written and recorded by singer-guitarist Doug Yule in a London recording studio, following the departures of Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison. Maureen Tucker, while still technically the band's drummer at this time, was not involved in the recording, reportedly due to cost-cutting measures.

This is NOT a Velvet Underground album. It's Doug Yule's solo album. By the time recording for Squeeze was planned in 1972, Sesnick sent Tucker and then band-mates Willie Alexander and Walter Powers back to the USA. The album was completed with Ian Paice of Deep Purple handling the drums and Yule tracking almost everything else. The result: an okay album with no band interplay and none of the character that the current line-up would have afforded the album. If the actual quartet would have recorded the album, it would have been justifiable to call the artist "The Velvet Underground".

Their 1967 debut album The Velvet Underground & Nico featured German singer and collaborator Nico and was called the "most prophetic rock album ever made" by Rolling Stone in 2003. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the band No. 19 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 by Patti Smith. The Velvet Underground is the third album by American rock group the Velvet Underground. It was their first record to feature Doug Yule, John Cale's replacement. It was recorded in 1968 at TTG Studios in Hollywood, California. The album's sound-consisting largely of ballads and straightforward rock songs-marked a notable shift in style from the group's previous recordings.
