Orbital ‎– Blue Album. Label: Orbital Music ‎– orbitalCD001. Country: UK & Europe. This Blue album was their way of saying goodbye, and this way of doing it is like quitting on top in my opinion. This album is in my ears one of the best albums they ever produced, and for sure way better than the previous couple of albums. Here we get great variation, everything from chilled to uptempo stuff. My personal favourite track here is track 2 called Pants, which is a pretty relaxed track with a very typical Orbital sound.

Orbital - Blue Album I really needn’t mention the multitude of accomplishments that Orbital have made in their 15 years of production which has seen seven top draw albums released as well as a long list of classic singles. Whether it be the very classic ‘Belfast’ or perhaps the modern vocal anthem in ‘Illuminate’, Orbital have continually been at the top of the game for almost two decades. They sign off with their final LP entitled the Blue Album on ATO Records. In many ways the album is reminiscent of their early work, with eerie sounds and journeys created by some hypnotic productions.

The Blue Album is more subtly beats-based than its predecessors; it has lengthy, almost classical sequences, and dark textures that are hard work at first but gradually reveal a haunting depth and beauty.

The Blue Album being a stroll through the past, innovation is not something one should expect from the record. In a way, the album simply highlights many of the reasons why Orbital have been so beloved for the past decade-and-a-half. However, one wouldn't come to that conclusion from the album opener, "Transient". Almost beatless, this kaleidoscopic web of harpsichord, strings and bass, unfurls an almost foreboding yet captivating sound, recalling Philip Glass circa Koyaanisqatsi. From there, Orbital deliver on their promise, taking us on a Russian Ark-like stroll through their.
