Stephen Sondheim (born March 22, 1930 in New York City) is a composer and lyricist for stage and screen. He is one of the few people to win an Academy Award, multiple Tony Awards, multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize. Sondheim has been writing for the American Musical Theatre for the past four decades. His breakthrough musical Company revolutionized the art form. He is considered by many to be the finest living composer of our time.

Sondheim's Pacific Overtures. what a problematic show. I understand why they feel this. If you have not seen this show performed, as well as know the music it is indeed extremely confusing. Pacific Overtures is told in a series of chronological vignettes that can be confusing at times as characters appear and are killed off quickly; this in turns keeps the audience from becoming emotionally invested in the story. Sondheim & Weidman ask much of their audience, but they deliver much as well. If your taste in musicals runs towards the star driven, Disneyesque, big name Broadway show, Pacific Overtures is not for you. But, if you are open to a show that is both exquisite and challenging, Pacific Overtures will reward you greatly.

Pacific Overtures (2004 . .has been added to your Cart. The recent Broadway revival of "Pacific Overtures" had a relatively short 3-month run. A few months later, this wonderful CD was inexplicably released to the surprise of enthusiastic Sondheim fans, but it's really a must have for anyone interested in musical theater.
