A chanson is in general any lyric-driven French song, usually polyphonic and secular. The earliest chansons were the epic poems performed to simple monophonic melodies by a professional class of jongleurs or ménestrels.

Little is known about the composer, Georges Brun, whose last name means Brown in French. Born in 1878, he married Antoinette Laute-Brun, a Parisian opera star, in 1907. He wrote a few songs and a symphony and died in 1961.
