It’s a rock ‘n’ roll album because it’s so goddamn violent. At its simplest level the album deals with the psychosis of being in a rock ‘n’ roll band and having made it as a star - and it does that better than the Who’s opus devoted exclusively to that subject, Quadrophenia. At another level it uses the relationship between a band and its audience as a metaphor for the parasitic relations between a man and a woman. I once criticized the band for compromising the power of Brown Sugar by cluttering it up with acoustic rhythm guitars. The album has its playful moments but its most characteristic instant is Charlie Watts’s first drumbeat on It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll. It resonates like the sound of a shotgun.

Still like that old-time rock 'n' roll That kind of music just soothes my soul I reminisce about the days of old With that old-time rock 'n' roll. Won't go to hear 'em play a tango I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul There's only one sure way to get me to go Start playing old-time rock 'n' roll. Call me a relic, call me what you will Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill Today's music ain't got the same soul I like that old-time rock 'n' roll

I Love Rock 'n Roll is the second studio album by Joan Jett and the first with her backing band The Blackhearts. Soon after the first recording sessions at Soundworks Studios, original Blackheart guitarist Eric Ambel was replaced by Ricky Byrd. It is Jett's most commercially successful album to date with over 10 million copies sold, largely due to the success of the title track, which was released as a single soon after the album was released.

50 More Rock'N'Roll Quotes. From genuinely profound to thoroughly embarrassing. Be it under the influence of alcohol, drugs or stupidity, rockers demand to be heard and never refrain from speaking their mind, which is why we love them. There was a time I thought I couldn’t enjoy rock ‘n’ roll unless I had heroin in me. Joe Perry of Aerosmith - 1989.

At the very outset of their colossal and very cool new book, Rock Covers (TASCHEN), authors Robbie Busch and Jonathan Kirby acknowledge that there might well be "better or differently focused collections" of rock covers out there in the world. Theirs, after all, is just one of myriad ways to celebrate the singular experience of encountering - for the first time, or the thousandth - a memorable album cover.
