The Great Highland bagpipe is a type of bagpipe native to Scotland. It has acquired widespread recognition through its usage in the British military and in pipe bands throughout the world. The bagpipe has been a famous musical instrument across the globe especially in Europe, Western parts of Asia and Northern Africa for many centuries, with its popularity being epitomized by the popular Great Highland Bagpipe in Scotland. They are a very respectable instrument but often come at a relatively higher cost, which can make it not affordable to most people. The advancement in instrumental technology surpassed the bagpipe in range and function. This induced a steady decline in the use of bagpipes as musical instruments. Features of Bagpipes. Some of the common features that must be present for a bagpipe to work properly are as listed below: Bag. An impermeable reservoir that holds air and adjusts its flow through arm pressure, enabling the user to retain an endless even melody.
The chanter is the melody pipe, played with two hands. Almost all bagpipes have at least one chanter; some pipes have two chanters, particularly those in North Africa, in the Balkans, and in Southwest Asia. A chanter can be bored internally so that the inside walls are parallel (or "cylindrical") for its full length, or it can be bored in a conical shape. The chanter is usually open-ended, so there is no easy way for the player to stop the pipe from sounding.

Though the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipe and Irish uilleann pipes have the greatest international visibility, bagpipes have been for centuries played throughout large parts of Europe, the Caucasus, around the Persian Gulf and in Northern Africa. The album featured songs by Peter Hames, Johnny Mulhearn, Hugh McDonald, Colm Gallagher and Floyd Red Crow Westerman; as well as some backing vocals by Enya on "Quiet Desperation", "Sweet Music Roll On" and "The Diamondtina Drover" and some fine uilleann pipes work by Liam O'Flynn. Seán Keane (fiddler). He has a unique style of playing, especially in his use of ornamentation, perhaps influenced by the music of the Irish bagpipe, or uilleann pipes. He is also a fiddle teacher. Seán is married and has three children by the names of Deirdre, Páraic and Darach. Darach and Páraic are both excellent musicians.
