Janos Starker, Bach - Suites For Unaccompanied Cello - No. 2 In D Minor / No. 5 In C Minor mp3 album
The six Cello Suites, BWV 1007-1012, are suites for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach. They are some of the most frequently performed and recognizable solo compositions ever written for cello. Bach most likely composed them during the period 1717–23, when he served as Kapellmeister in Köthen. The title given on the cover of the Anna Magdalena Bach manuscript was Suites à Violoncello Solo senza Basso (Suites for cello solo without bass).
Gavotte I & II. B6. Gigue. Cello – Janos Starker. Composed By – Johann Sebastian Bach.
Suite No. 5 In C Minor BWV 1011.
This is Janos Starker's fifth recording of Bach's cello suites. His third set, for Mercury (423 756-2), is even more perfectly played. But the musical maturity, the subtlety of inflection and expression, in this set is truly incomparable. Unlike his earlier recordings, Starker now plays all the marked repeats in the score, making them an even richer experience. This playing satisfies all requirements of the head and the heart; it makes every point you want to hear, and it's profoundly moving . Cello Suite No. 5 in C Minor, BWV 1011: Courante.

Suite n. in D minor The second Suite, in D minor, is in stark contrast to the breezy first, full of dark undercurrents, tagedy and a dramatic Beethovian defiance. Its Sarabande especially is deeply moving. Suite n. in C major With the third Suite we return to a happy Bach. Perhaps the sunniest and most popular of the Suites. He set his reputation for technical perfection, sensitive phrasing and a supreme expressive intensity. Some, however, regard the transfer to CD as less than perfect.
