The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", Op. 95, B. 178 (Czech: Symfonie č. 9 e moll „Z nového světa ), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It is by far his most popular symphony, and one of the most popular of all symphonies.
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s 2018/19 season includes a world premiere from David Fennessy, a performance of Berlioz’s Lélio to mark the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death, and concerts dedicated to the music of Gloria Coates and Thea Musgrave. BBC SSO chief conductor Thomas Dausgaard will open the season with a performance of Bernstein’s Songfest, marking the composer’s centenary.

The orchestra plays subtly, supportively, and intensely on Song. James MacMillan: Violin Concerto & Symphony No. 4 BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
