Pete Burns – provocateur with a pop brain and a sensitive side. Sophisticated Boom Boom, the debut Dead Or Alive album, is the sort of record one typically finds in secondhand bargain bins and charity shops, on vinyl for a quid. And rarely will a quid be better spent, because it stands up fantastically well. It produced no fewer than four Top 40 hits, and the pick of the post-You Spin Me Round releases was probably In Too Deep.
Pete Burns, 57, who founded band Dead or Alive in 1980 and went on to gain more fame on Celebrity Big Brother, has died of a cardiac arrest, according to his manager. Dead Or Alive, fronted by Burns, pictured in 1984, is due to release a special anniversary album on October 28. Pictured earlier this year, Burns said he would 'never stop going under the knife' in the pursuit of physical perfection. A statement released today said Burns' (pictured) family and friends were 'devastated' by his loss and were thinking of the 'wonderful memories he left us with'.

Pete Burns, lead singer of the Eighties goth new wave band Dead or Alive and their smash You Spin Me Round (Like a Record), died Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest, his management said Monday. All of his family and friends are devastated by the loss of our special star, the message read. After a string of singles, including The Stranger, Dead or Alive released their debut album Sophisticated Boom Boom in 1984, with the band transforming KC and the Sunshine Band’s That’s the Way (I Like It) into an unlikely hit. The trouble is that people are all too ready to jump to conclusions about anybody who they think looks a bit strange.

I hope when I'm 80 – when I get to heaven that God doesn't recognize me," Pete Burns said during a 2016 interview. The band was set to release a new compilation, Sophisticated Boom Box MMXVI, on Oct. 28. The singer passed suddenly, his management team confirmed, calling the special star a true visionary. Burns made his career start crooning hits like You Spin Me Right Round (Like a Record), but later, after leaving music behind, became known for reality TV stints and his dramatically changing appearance.
