Bathory was an extreme Metal band formed in 1983 from Vallingby, Sweden named after the infamous Hungarian countless individual of Elizabeth Bathory. Released on October of 1984, Bathory's self titled album is deemed by many worldwide fans to consider this as the first ever Black Metal album in history. The artwork is a representation of a Pentagram and a re-touched portion of a drawing based on a old English font as the goat resembles a result of populism.

Bathory were one of the pioneers of the first wave of both black metal and viking metal. Formed in 1983 by Quorthon, Jonas Åkerlund, and Frederick Melander, but didn't come up with the name of the band until the recording of Scandinavian Metal Attack. When Quorthon formed the band in 1983, his nickname was originally Black Spade.
