Charles Nicholas Hodges (28 December 1943 – 22 September 2018) was an English musician and singer who was the lead vocalist of the musical duo Chas & Dave. Hodges was born at the North Middlesex University Hospital in Edmonton on 28 December 1943 to Albert and Daisy Hodges. He was named Charles Nicholas, but called Chas as it was a common nickname for Charles in Hackney where his father was from.
The singer and pianist Chas Hodges, who has died aged 74 after suffering from oesophageal cancer, and bass guitarist Dave Peacock scored hit records such as Rabbit, Gertcha and Ain’t No Pleasing You, as well as composing songs to celebrate Tottenham Hotspur’s cup successes. The duo’s first album, One Fing ’n’ Anuvver (1975), soon received airplay on music historian Charlie Gillett’s show on BBC Radio London.
This is our first Chas & Dave-produced album for over 30 years, Hodges said in a statement. Tell you what, though, we ain’t waiting another 30 years before we do the next one.

CHAS Hodges - one half of the singing duo Chas and Dave - has died at the age of 74 after a battle with cancer.
