Curtis Mayfield - The Masters mp3 album
Curtis is the debut album by American soul musician Curtis Mayfield, released in September 1970. Produced by Mayfield, it was released on his own label Curtom Records. The musical styles of Curtis moved further away from the pop-soul sounds of Mayfield's previous group The Impressions and featured more of a funk and ed sound. The album's subject matter incorporates political and social concerns of the time.
Mayfield is truly one of the greats, a pioneer in funk and socially aware R&B. He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 (Solo Performer) and previously (1991) as a member of The Impressions. Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000.

Curtis Mayfield (June 3, 1942 – December 26, 1999) was an American soul, funk and R&B singer, songwriter and guitarist probably best known for his soundtrack to the blaxploitation film Superfly. Mayfield's career began in 1956 (see 1956 in music) when he formed The Roosters with Arthur and Richard Brooks and Jerry Butler. Four years later The Roosters, now including also Sam Gooden, became The Impressions. The band had hits with "For Your Precious Love" and "Gypsy Woman.
20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Curtis Mayfield. Though a thorough look at Mayfield's talents and innovations is beyond the scope of this album, The Millennium Collection does provide enough of his definitive tracks to make it a worthwhile overview of his work.
Curtis Mayfield was already one of the greats of soul music with a long and successful career behind him with the Impressions when he decided to go out on his own. Curtis was always a shrewd businessman and was never ripped off by dishonest labels and managers like so many other artists in those days. Rhino remastered all of this beautifully from the original masters. This disc, with 15 songs, has most everything anyone needs from a Best-of type of collection.
