In 1985, Lowlife recorded Rain, a six-song mini-album. It was released on Nightshift Records, a label formed by Guthrie specifically to release material by the band. All subsequent Lowlife LPs, singles, and EPs would appear on Nightshift, with the exception of their final album, Gush, which was released on the Anoise Annoys Records label. Also in 1987, a live performance of the band specifically shot for BBC Scotland was broadcast on television, and a single ("Eternity Road") and an EP (Swirl It Swings) were released. In 1988, Lowlife rehearsed new material and Guthrie presented demos of some songs to Working Music, which was associated at the time with Chappell Music.

12 inch Vinyl Single.

Lowlife are easily one of the most under-rated bands of all time. I expect that most of my readers are very familiar, or at least somewhat familiar with their music. For those that are not, it's time! I plan on posting a semi-discography of the band that came prior to Lowlife (Dead Neighbours) after this. A quick summary on the sound: A perfect blending of aze sounds. Heavy, melancholic vocals and some of the most ethereal, dark, and overall brilliant musical compositions you'll hear anywhere.

Swirl, It Swings EP 1987 UK 12 press on Nightshift Records. The LTM remasters couple Diminuendo with the magnificent Swirl It Swings EP - both of which are gems on vinyl - and will never leave my side. Sadly, Lowlife never received the recognition they deserved and faded into the background. This album was their peak and captures a sound that is sorely missed in today's musical landscape. Next up:Lowlife's third album 'Godhead'. Will Heggie, original Cocteau Twins bassist, was a founding member of this band. Singer Craig Lorentson passed away in '10. .
