Stefan Goldmann (born 1978) is a German-Bulgarian DJ and composer of electronic music. He has released records since 2001 through the labels Perlon, Innervisions, Cocoon and others before founding his own imprint, Macro, in 2007. Goldmann is also closely associated with Berlin's Berghain /Panorama Bar club, where he performs regularly and for which he writes a bi-monthly column. In 2010 he collaborated with. 17:50 (Macro 2012, 2x12" and CD). Live At Honen-In Temple (Macro 2013, CD).
Stefan Goldmann takes us on a tour of his Japanese workstation synth presets. For instance midway through recording the album I recognized I had forgotten - or rather not thought about - assigning stereo panning positions to the individual sounds. Weirdly they had positioned themselves, more vertically than than in a horizontal panorama: the preset sounds of an instrument like the Korg Triton are designed to work together without further adjustments. If effort makes you like stuff more than it's actually worth, imagine how huge the gap is between what people think they have produced in a modular world and what you hear in it when you just get the track!
Macrospective by Stefan Goldmann & Finn Johannsen, released 12 September 2011 Two DJs, one tracklist. Probably for the first time in the history of dance music a release focuses on extracting the pure sound signature of the DJ. When the tracks to choose from are limited to one playlist, the sequencing decisions and mix styles of the DJs reveal their individualities. As well as the different possibilities the music allows when formed into one continuous stream. MACROSPECTIVE is the first conceptual double mix offering a 1 on 1 comparison of the art of DJing with two masters of the craft. The two mixes by Macro founders Stefan Goldmann and Finn Johannsen highlight key works of the label (including poll winners THE MAZE, LAW OF RETURN, ARCADE & LUNATIC FRINGE), bringing out the versatility and individuality of each track. Great music allows for more than a single interpretation.
