The Dallas Brass is a brass quintet with percussion, a six-member group founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, who also plays trombone. In 1987 when this first CD was recorded the other members included Wiff Rudd and Tim Andersen (trumpets), Alex Shuhan (French horn), Gary Carper (tuba), and Robert Ward (percussion). The membership as of 2011 is completely different, except for founder Levine, but the level of performance has remained very high. To date the Brass has issued 6 CDs, all of which have been received very favorably. 1 - American Fanfare, a fine, short piece composed by John Wasson specifically for this album. Wasson is also a principal arranger of the group's repertoire. 2, 3, 4 - Three short fugues by Pachelbel arranged by Kenneth Singleton, very well written, arranged, and voices being clearly distinguishable within the contrapuntal texture.
Moorhead High School band students joined the Dallas Brass during the inaugural concert in the Horizon Middle School Performing Arts Center April 21. Horizon East band students also performed with the Dallas Brass during American Musical Journey.
It was 50 years ago that the Beatles‘ released their first album, Please Please Me. In honor of that world-changing LP, we’ve compiled a list of the 100 Greatest Debut Albums of All Time. A note on how we made the list: Albums got docked points if the artist went on to far greater achievements (which is why Please, Please Me and Greetings from Asbury Park, great as they are, didn’t made the Top 10); conversely, we gave a little extra recognition to great debut albums that the artist never matched (hello, Is This. The artist herself would later dismiss the post-disco pop on her debut as "the aerobics album. But it didn't just succeed in introducing the most important female voice in the history of modern music, it's also aged much better sonically than Like A Virgin, her blockbuster 1984 follow-up.
A brass quintet with the addition of a percussionist, which occurred shortly after the group's inception in 1982, has opened up a wider range of possibilities and enabled us to more successfully capture the original style and flavor of each composition. Genre: Easy Listening: Classical Pop. Release Date: 2009. As the brass quintet is an ensemble born of the 20th century, we brass players don't have the wealth of great repertoire by the masters, like Bach and Mozart. In fact, the amount of original brass music written before the mid-1900's is extremely scarce. The music in this album comes from England, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Romania and Holland and ranges from Renaissance and Baroque to various 20th century styles.
