Keith Sykes tells the story behind his song "The Best Day" when he met Jimmy Buffett for the first time in Key West. Singer/Songwriter Keith Sykes released his first self titled album on the Vanguard label in 1969 and never slowed down as he continues to release solo writing projects. His years as a musician are filled with stage performances and tours with various bands, but he’s always taken time to write songs. Since the late 70’s Keith is best known for his many years of playing guitar in Jimmy Buffett’s band.

Toby Keith (known as Should’ve Been a Cowboy on the 2018 re-release) is the debut studio album from American country music artist Toby Keith. Released in 1993 on Polygram Records, it features the singles "Should've Been a Cowboy", "He Ain't Worth Missing", "A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action", and "Wish I Didn't Know Now". Respectively, these songs peaked at No. 1, No. 5, No. 2, and No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs charts.

Although he had been making records for 37 years as of 2006, managing to issue ten albums in that period, Keith Sykes remained best known as a country songwriter, primarily in association with better known names like Jimmy Buffett and John Prine. Discussions of Sykes invariably evoke those names and several others - Jerry Jeff Walker, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell - placing him within a revered songwriting tradition with Southern roots but a degree of independence from the Nashville machine.
