Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker. Blacher: Blues, Espagnola und Rumba philharmonica. Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker. Blues, Espagnola und Rumba philharmonica: Blues. It was first released in 1975, and includes music by Funck, Klengel, Blacher, and Françaix. The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic are probably the most unusual chamber music ensemble in the world. The fact that the lower string players of an orchestra should form themselves into an independent ensemble is unique, and it is even more impressive that the ensemble has notched up success after success over a period of nearly 40 years, nationally and internationally.
