Born, born to be alive (Born to be alive) Yes we were born Born Born (Born to be alive). It's good to be alive. Time was on my side When I was running down the street It was so fine, fine, fine A suitcase and an old guitar It's something I need to occupy A mind like mine. Yes we were born, born Born to be alive (Born to be alive) Yes we were born Born Born (Born to be alive). Born Born to be alive (Born to be alive) Yes we were born Born Born (Born to be alive).

Born to Be Alive is the first studio album by Patrick Hernandez, released internationally in 1978 and in the US in 1979. It features the eponymous disco hit "Born to Be Alive" as well as a less-successful single, "Disco Queen". While a member of the French group Gold, Hernandez was signed by producer Jean Vanloo and left to Waterloo, Belgium to begin work on a solo album. In November, 1978, the album was released on the Aariana sub-label Aquarius Records (in France)

Patrick Hernandez didn't have one of the biggest, most iconic one-hit-wonder disco smashes, but he did have one of the best. 1979's hypnotic, gold-selling "Born to Be Alive" reached number 16 on the Top 40 pop chart, yet it's not often cited as one of the genre's definitive songs. The song is, of course, the centerpiece of its parent album, Born to Be Alive.

Patrick Hernandez, born in France to a Spanish father and Austrian/Italian mother, wrote the song in 1978, but had no success finding a producer who would take the song, until he met Italian producer, Jean Vanloo. Hernandez and Vanloo recorded the track in a studio in Belgium and released it under the French record label Aquarius in 1978. The song quickly spread to dance clubs throughout Europe and was picked up by the UK record label Gem Records in 1979. Thanks to it's global success, "Born to be Alive" has sold about 800,000 units every year in some form, often as part of a compilation album. In January 1979, Patrick Hernandez received his first gold record for the track in Italy, and by the end of 1979, He had racked up 52 gold and platinum records from more than 50 different countries. In April 1979, the song hit in France, where it stayed until July of that year.
