David Binney - Aliso mp3 album

David Binney: Aliso by Dan Bilawsky, published on April 13, 2010. Binney wears his influences on his sleeve throughout Aliso, choosing to touch on the work of Wayne Shorter, Sam Rivers, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane, but his own writing for this album is often markedly different from the works of these icons. Melodic twists and turns, which obscure otherwise straightforward rhythmic elements, are typical in much of Binney's writing and they pop up on the title track. Bassist Eivind Opsvik provides the catchy bass riff that lies at the center of the music, while Binney and guitarist Wayne Krantz work up a sweat with their solos later in the track

David Binney: Aliso by John Kelman, published on April 12, 2010. A function of its participants being unable to convene until the night before the recording, Aliso could be considered a tad schizophrenic. Binney's tunes are not exactly more direct, but they are less complex, encouraging even greater emphasis on blowing; a nice dovetail with music from Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, Sam Rivers and John Coltrane.

Pianist Jacob Sacks plays on the majority of these tracks (with Jon Escreet on the others,) as his reputation is steadily emerging as one of the top-drawer and sought-after sidemen, with leadership in his not-too-distant future

DAVID BINNEY is a avant-garde jazz, post-fusion contemporary, eclectic fusion, jazz related djs/electronica/rap, fusion, 21st century modern post bop music artist. Alto saxophonist David Binney has established himself as a true original and critically acclaimed performer in progressive jazz of modern times. Born in Miami, FL, August 2, 1961, he spent some time in Detroit while his parents, who were big music fans, were at Wayne State University.

David Binney is, in case you didn’t know, a part of the NY elite. He has played with just about everyone and plays in some of the hippest groups we may never be fortunate enough to see live in this country (unless you live in NY, that is!). A true road-warrior and tireless composer and performer, Binney was able to squeeze in a session while everyone was in town briefly and this is the result
