The Holydrug Couple - Moonlust mp3 album

The Holydrug Couple is a psychedelic rock duo from Santiago, Chile. The Holydrug Couple began in 2008. They released their first album in 2011 titled Awe via BYM Records. Shortly after the release, the band caught the attention of Sacred Bones Records, who signed the band to their label. Later that year, the band released an EP titled Ancient Land. In 2013, the band released their second full-length album and major label debut, Noctuary via Sacred Bones.

The Holydrug Couple have done a lot of growing since their first release with Sacred Bones Records in 2011. The couple, consisting of Ives Sepúlveda and Manuel Parra recorded Noctuary in Santiago, Chile. They put together a home studio and recorded the entire album themselves, from start to finish.

The Holydrug Couple will return with their new LP Moonlust on May 12 via Sacred Bones Records. The record follows up the gorgeous Noctuary that the Chilean psych-rockers released in 2012, and seems to mark an even keener eye for mixing pop sensibilities with the ethereal sounds of psychedelia, if the lead single Dreamy is any indication. If ever there were a more aptly named song than the Holydrug Couple’s Dreamy, we’d like to hear it. It simply floats along, buoyed by effected vocals and reverb-laden guitars, occupying some space high up in the clouds.

News Added Mar 14, 2015 New album from The Holydrug Couple on Sacred Bones records. New album from The Holydrug Couple on Sacred Bones records. Think Chile's answer to Tame Impala, really melodic and psychedelic with a little less grit (so bad thing). Submitted By Constantino Christou.

On Moonlust, the Chilean duo of Ives Sepulveda and Manuel Parra remain in the retrosphere but move in a different musical direction. That doesn't mean there aren't psych touches here, but they're subservient to sounds from French film music and European cafe rock from the late 1970s and '80s. In addition, the influence of French duo Air is utterly pervasive - sans state of the art technology.

Reviews about The Holydrug Couple - Moonlust (1):
Rocky Basilisk
Bright and airy, almost ambient, Moonlust, by The Holydrug Couple is a step in the evolution of dream-pop, creating a sense of transparentness, space, romanticism, and the need for infusing a sense of clarity and privacy into our very beings. The Holydrug Couple do this through music, though with a name such as Holydrug, the notion of narcotic pop-music might just be a genre that’s slowly ebbing its way into the musical lexicon of our lives. There’s a yearning vagueness to this sound, creating a desirable melancholia that is purposeful and enticing, envisioning an illusionary atmosphere of being alone in the crowd. The Holydrug Couple don’t so much relay stories to you through their vocals, it’s more that they create a palette onto which the listener is able to project their own thoughts, visions, wishes, longings, and objectively channel the core of their inner desires through the contours of this dream-laden soundscape. There are few edges to be found anywhere in this release, even in the vocals, where voices are used as much as instrumentation. In the same manner there’s a distillation of any solid surfaces onto which one might attempt to extract an essential meaning or central aspect of Moonlust. The music is disarming, in much the same manner as were the Cocteau Twins, or even Galaxie 500, where it’s all about the smoothness, the lack of challenge, and the readiness allow ourselves to be swept away with total disregard.Review by Jenell Kesler
