Profilo: Jamaican reggae & rocksteady vocal group formed in 1964.
The Silvertones (who also recorded as The Musketeers and The Muskyteers) were a Jamaican reggae harmony group formed in 1964, best known for their recordings for Lee "Scratch" Perry in the early 1970s. In 1964 three vocalists – Delroy Denton, Keith Coley, and Gilmore Grant – came together to form The Silvertones. In 1968, The Silvertones released a cover version of Wilson Pickett’s song "In The Midnight Hour". Other singles included "Old Man River" and "Slow and Easy" on Reid’s Treasure Isle label. Perry produced their album titled "Silver Bullets", voiced at King Tubby’s Studio, in one night and released it on his Black Ark Label and on Trojan Records in the UK. In the late 1970s The Silvertones had successful singles with "I Want To Be There", "Smile", "Stop Crying", "Have a Little Faith", and "Come Forward". They worked again with Clement Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One.

Album · 1992 · 45 Songs. The Swan Silvertones were masters of quartet singing during gospel's golden age (1944-55). This collection of the group's earliest 78s catches them in the act of transforming from a slightly coarse jubilee-style a capella act into a terrific, modern "hard" shouting-style group. Tightly woven patterns of sweet, plaintive singing buffet the thrilling falsetto vocals of the Rev.

These tracks came from six sessions for Vee-Jay when the group was at its creative peak - perhaps the single best album they ever put out. It contains their hit "Oh Mary Don't You Weep," "How I Got Over," "My Rock," "The Lord's Prayer," "When Jesus Comes," and "Great Day in December" - all incredible music experiences.
The Silvertones show a humorous side, although a little dark and some bits that are swampy and acoustic showing some tasty guitar work with strong, instrumental solos. The album closes with "Silvertone Trail", a sort of musical autobiography. This Texas road is a completely enjoyable ride. 1. Knockin’ on My Baby’s Door. 4. Dallas, Austin and Back Again.
