The Orgelbüchlein, translated as 'Little Organ Book', is a set of 46 chorale preludes written by Johann Sebastian Bach mostly during his tenure as organist in the court of Weimar, from 1708 to 1717 (three preludes and some fragments were added more than 10 years later). These chorale preludes are considered Bach's first masterpieces for the instrument, displaying a mature compositional style in contrast with his previous organ works.

The Orgelbüchlein ("Little Organ Book") BWV 599−644 is a collection of 46 chorale preludes for organ written by Johann Sebastian Bach. All but three of them were composed during the period 1708–1717, while Bach was court organist at the ducal court in Weimar. The remaining three, along with a short two-bar fragment, were added in 1726 or later, after Bach's appointment as cantor at the Thomasschule in Leipzig.

Performer: Christopher Herrick. Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach. Audio CD (November 12, 2002). I am no longer particularly religious, yet many of these works, but the sublimity of Bach's compositions (and their competent, enjoyable renderings by Herrick) makes me wonder whether Bach (a devout Protestant) was divinely inspired. While one may wonder how much organ music he or she can ultimately listen to, a proper listening session with this set will make that person realize that unaccompanied organ pieces are just as intricate and beautiful as an full orchestra - perhaps even more so, in the right hands (.
