µ-Ziq - Lunatic Harness mp3 album

Lunatic Harness is the fourth studio album by British electronic music producer Mike Paradinas under the stage name µ-Ziq. It was released on 30 June 1997 in the United Kingdom on the Planet Mu label, and on 29 July 1997 in the United States on the Astralwerks label. In 2013, Spin named it one of the 20 best Astralwerks albums. In 2017, Pitchfork placed it at number 27 on its list of "The 50 Best IDM Albums of All Time".

Following the brief but for the most part uninteresting toy-box chop-up of 1996's Urmur Bile Trax, the album escapes the mire of noncommittal cheekiness (an affectation that also damaged some of his Jake Slazenger work) by returning to early releases such as Tango N' Vectif and Bluff Limbo for inspiration, fusing pretty, affecting melodies and dynamic ambient atmospheres with beats.

After exhausting all of Richard James' material, anyone new to the genre may be looking for an alternative out of the Rephlex label. Lunatic Harness delivers. After exhausting all of Richard James' material, anyone new to the genre may be looking for an alternative out of the Rephlex label. Electronic music and dance music are distinct but related entities in the music world. When they converge on each other, you quite often receive something mainstream adores and obscurity shuns: electropop, club techno, etc.

By far my fav. VG to get into IDM. Also waiting for the repress!

Great album Mike - probably your best and most consistent work!
Arakus
There is something very soothing and timeless about this record. Just listened to it for the first time in about 15 years or so and it really has aged well. Loads of smooth Moog type sine wave lead synth sounds, lush pads and organs placed over extremely well programmed glitch scattery beats with just a little melancholy. Definitely his best work IMO. Well worth digging out. If the Clangers had Logic this is what they would make ;)

Well, perhaps not an 'absolute genius', but certainly one of the originals, much imitated. Muzik magazine, in 1997 asked "his most accessible record yet?" perhaps so, the beats aren't so messed up you can't get into them, and this is good pre-DSP beat-trickery.

Mike Paradinas, the man behind U-ziq, is an absolute genius. In the mid 90's he hung out with Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher), Richard D. James (Aphex Twin), and Luke vibert (Plug, Wagon Christ) His style feature more funk/jazzish stylings, with flowing atmospherics with a spacey feel. This best track on this album is the first track!
