Bartók - Meta4 - String Quartets No. 1 & 5 mp3 album
The Finnish string quartet Meta4 has now achieved international recognition and regularly plays on the great stages of the world. In their new album, featuring the first and fifth quartets of Béla Bartók, Meta4 turns once again – as a follow up to their hugely successful 2011 recording of Shostakovich quartets – to a program of 20th century masterpieces. There is little doubt that Bartók is among the boldest quartet composers since Beethoven. 1 & 5 - Meta4Bartok - String Quartets Nos. 1, . av. Peak level 9. % Extraction speed . One might suppose that a CD of the String Quartet No. 1 and the String Quartet No. 5 would be the first volume of a projected Bartók cycle, but there's no guarantee that Meta4 will continue with the other four quartets, or instead veer off into some other direction for their next release. Yet because these performances are sensitive and insightful, this CD should be appreciated for its own strengths, whether or not more Bartók is in the offing.

The String Quartet No. 4 by Béla Bartók was written from July to September 1928 in Budapest. It is one of six string quartets by Bartok. The work is in five movements: Allegro. Prestissimo, con sordino. Allegretto pizzicato. This work, like the String Quartet No. 5, and several other pieces by Bartók, exhibits an "arch" structure - the first movement is thematically related to the last, and the second to the fourth with the third movement standing alone

BARTOK'S QUARTETS While the First and Second Quartets are beautiful Romantic works. They are not innovative, other than the beginning of Bartok's use of folk melodies. The Third, Fourth, and Fifth Quartets are sheer modernist genius. Bartok was inspired by hearing Berg's new "Lyric Suite" in 1927, and wrote his Third and Fourth quartets in response. The Fourth and Fifth both use palindrome structures, with a central movement and the others grouped around it in layers
