The Waterboys - This Is The Sea mp3 album
This Is the Sea is the third The Waterboys album, and the last of their "Big Music" albums. Considered by critics to be the finest album of their early rock-oriented sound, described as "epic" and "a defining moment", it was the first Waterboys album to enter the United Kingdom charts, peaking at number 37. Steve Wickham makes his Waterboys recording debut playing violin on 'The Pan Within' and subsequently joined the band, appearing on the video of "The Whole of the Moon".
Now if you're feelin' weary If you've been alone too long Maybe you've been suffering from A few too many Plans that have gone wrong And you're trying to remember How fine your life used to be Running around banging your drum Like it's 1973 Well that was the river This is the sea! Wooo! Now you say you've got trouble You say you've got pain You say've got nothing left to believe in Nothing to hold on to Nothing to trust Nothing but chains You've been scouring your conscience Raking through your memories Scouring your conscience Raking through . .

The Waterboys were a British group formed in London in 1981 by Mike Scott (guitar/vocals) and Anthony Thistlewaite (t). They later added Karl Wallinger (guitar, keyboards) Steve Wickham (fiddle) and Kevin Wilkinson (drums). The year after "The Whole Of The Moon" was released, Wallinger left the band to form World Party, who had a US hit with "Ship Of Fools. This was the only song that was not mostly finished when The Waterboys started recording their third album, This Is The Sea. Mike Scott wrote in the liner notes: "That song, begun with a scribble on the back of an envelope on a wintery New York street, was finally completed in May 1985 in a London studio, when the verse containing "unicorns and cannonballs, palaces and piers" was added. The female singer who comes in around the 2:40 mark is Max Edie.
I have listened to "This is the Sea" over and over because I thought I needed to understand what it meant. This is the album to speak to that part of you. WARNING, though - after listening, you might just find yourself a little discontent with the office and may even be tempted to run away to Ireland where melancholy and passion are more normal.

The early Waterboys sound was dubbed "The Big Music" after a song on their second album, A Pagan Place. This style was described by Scott as "a metaphor for seeing God's signature in the world a mystical celebration of paganism. It's extolling the basic and primitive divinity that exists in everything ('the oceans and the sand'), religious and spiritual all encompassing. The Waterboys (officially a trio of Scott, Thistlethwaite and Wallinger with a slew of guests) released their third album, This Is the Sea, in October 1985. It sold better than either of the two earlier albums, and managed to get into the Top Forty. A single from it, "The Whole of the Moon", reached number 26 in the UK.
