The Edgar Broughton Band, founded in 1968 in Warwick, England, was an English psychedelic rock group. The band started their career as a blues group under the name of The Edgar Broughton Blues Band, playing to a small following in the region around their hometown of Warwick. However, when the band began to lean towards the emerging psychedelic movement, dropping the 'Blues' from their name as well as their music, Victor Unitt left.

The Edgar Broughton Band were one of the most consistent artists on the Harvest label, from their bombastic debut Wasa Wasa right through to their fabulous and criminally overlooked masterpiece Oora. Whilst they never enjoyed that much success - compared with label mates Deep Purple, Pink Floyd or even BJH - they were always one of the best (the best was of course Roy Harper by a million miles). I of course knew this album existed but never bought a copy and compared today with the Harvest releases is so hard to pick up in reasonable condition.
Текст песни: E. Broughton, E. Broughton-S. Broughton-Unitt I laid on a poppy It laid on me A lot of thinking. Broughton-Unitt I laid on a poppy It laid on me A lot of thinking And did it all for free I thought of yo. thought of you I wanted to swim in the river But I saw what they had done All the fish are dying in there And we ain’t got no sun I thought of yo. thought of you I wandered in a meadow All that rubbish there Look at them with the plastic picnic Talking 'bout the length of my hair I laid on a poppy It laid on me A lot of thinking And did it all for free I thought of you.
