Midnight Star was a synth-funk group that had a string of R&B hits in the '80s. The group was formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by the Calloway brothers (trumpeter Reginald, and trombone player Vincent), with vocalist Belinda Lipscomb. Signing to RCA Records, they released their first album, The Beginning in 1980, with a host of studio musicians.

The Best Of Judas Priest: Living After Midnight is a compilation album of Judas Priest's hits, dating from their 1978 album Killing Machine (Hell Bent for Leather in the United States) through Painkiller (1990). This album was released in 1997. In 2009 the album was reported to have sold 564,000 copies in the United States. In the booklet, the band lists its entire Sony/Columbia discography.

Teflon Don is the Miami MC's best album yet: a sleek, seductive portrait of a badass rapper living a life of South Florida luxury. Jay-Z, Kanye West, Drake, and Erykah Badu make cameos, and Ross shows why he's a rapper's rapper, dropping quotable rhymes - "I wanna walk in the image of Christ, but that bitch Vivica nice" - in his bassy, bulldozer flow. But their most impressive accomplishment this year was How I Got Over, the best album of their two-decade-long career. It's an expansive and thrillingly funky album about hard times that tosses in street reportage and gospel uplift - as well as dashes of indie rock from guests including Joanna Newsom, Monsters of Folk and members of the Dirty Projectors. Nashville's gruffest and grittiest star turns out to be its most reliable traditionalist, a Music Row pro who can write a song for every emotional season.

It’s not their best album, but it’s the best at convincing serious young rock nerds that Devo were more than a silly footnote. 66. Derek and the Dominos, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (1970) For a band that only released one studio album, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon sure made it count. 61. The Allman Brothers, Eat A Peach (1972) The first Allman Brothers Band album released after Duane Allman’s death is a sprawling beast that highlights every one of the band’s strengths. Chief among those are Duane’s mastery of the slide guitar and Gregg Allman’s incomparable voice, but Eat A Peach also underscores the band’s multifaceted songwriting proficiency, from the half-hour Mountain Jam to the plaintive pop of Melissa to the upbeat guitar calisthenics of Dickey Betts’ Blue Sky. -
