Raingods with Zippos is a 1999 progressive rock album by ex-Marillion vocalist Fish. It was released on the Roadrunner record label, more well-known for its heavy metal releases. Raingods with Zippos is often hailed as one of Fish’s greatest solo achievements along with his 1990 debut Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors. It is the first of three Fish albums to be produced by Elliot Ness (not including the best of collection Kettle of Fish from 1998, with which Ness was involved). Raingods with Zippos startlingly blending melody and mood with that flair for drama at which Fish excels. If you’re a Fish-ophile you’ll relish swimming in the vast ocean of demos, instrumentals and live tracks that engorge these lovingly designed packages. Yet it’s his intensity and his theatre that keep them aflame.
Raingods with Zippos is arguably Fish's true crowning achievement, and is criminally underrated in a world that unfortunately wouldn't dare listen to an album like this, for all its diversity and incredibly good sound. Raingods with Zippos cannot simply be listened to in parts. It must be listened to as a whole, and fully embraced as an album that flows with such cohesion and spirit that it haunts you for days after so much as listening to it once.

Raingods with Zippos seemingly completes the descent: "Tumbledown" has a vague infectiousness, but the light arrangement seems rather silly. Raingod's Dancing" has some impressive power in Fish's vocals, but doesn't go anywhere once you sit up and take notice. Most of the album is either unremarkable, or (as with "Faith Healer") feels disastrously heavy-handed. At this point, it seems clear that Fish's strength was to take the churning miasma of musical talent in Marillion and forge it into an album of coherent melodies with clever lyrics
Produced by Elliott Ness. Album Raingods With Zippos. Plague of Ghosts Lyrics. So I lay me down to lie and with the rain my lullaby I drift away to dreamless sleep Leave behind a life that died, a victim of a plague of ghosts I was wrapped up in my guilt buried deep within my memories, a shelter of self-pity That I know the rain will wash away, I sense the storm arriving. Raingods with Zippos A tin man rusts away and slowly falls apart Raingods with Zippos And all he leaves behind a bleeding broken heart
Internal Exile ("A Collection of a Boy's Own Stories") was Fish's second solo album after leaving Marillion in 1988. The album, released 28 October 1991, was inspired by the singer's past, his own personal problems and his troubled experiences with his previous record label EMI. The album's music reflects Fish's indulgence in the vast regions of music that he wanted to explore as a solo artist; most notably Celtic music and folk styles.
1999 saw ex-Marillion singer Fish release his Raingods With Zippos set following some protracted legal battles with former labels. Enlisting producer Elliot Ness, Fish also chose to inject some new blood and worked with several new musicians which gives the album a re-energized feel. As always, the writing is literate and expressive, concerning itself with matters of the spirit and the heart. Tumbledown" leads the album off in fine style. What begins as a lovely piano ballad, suddenly becomes a stomping rock track with soaring guitar work from newcomer Steve Wilson.
