Clydie King (Clydie May Crittendon, Dallas, Texas, August 21, 1943 - January 7, 2019) was an American rhythm & blues and soul singer best known for her session work as a backing vocalist. Discovered by songwriter Richard Berry, King began her recording career in 1956 with Little Clydie & the Teens, she was a member of Ray Charles' Raeletts for three years and contributed to early '60s recordings by producer Phil Spector.

Clydie King, a singer who recorded under her own name and as a backup vocalist for Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, the Rolling Stones and many others, died on Jan. 7, 2019, at age 75 in Los Angeles. The cause was not revealed, but King’s death was confirmed by a friend named Rudy Calvo to Rolling Stone, following several days of social media posts by music fans that lacked confirmation. She first worked behind Dylan on the 1970 album New Morning, with other members of the Blackberries, but that session remained a one-off at the time; she didn’t become a regular member of his crew until 1980 when Dylan was in his Christian-music period. King took part in one of Dylan’s tours and then contributed to several studio tracks that fall. Much of that material is featured in the 2017 Dylan Bootleg series release, Trouble No More.

Clydie also spent three years with Ray Charles as one of the Raelets (sic) getting it all together and then finally stepping out for duets with the master. But where it's really at is right here - ten songs - some written especially for her - that give Clydie King an opportunity to stand alone, a major new talent doing her own thing for the first time

Clydie King, who sang with Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Ray Charles and Lynyrd Skynyrd, died in January 2019. Over the next decade, she regularly put out singles under her own name and also spent three years as one of Ray Charles' Raelettes. After she left the road to raise a family, she found steady employment as a session vocalist. King returned to the road with Dylan in the '80s, often stepping into the spotlight to duet with him. She's best heard on the 2017 mostly live Trouble No More Bootleg Series box set, and on the last two records of Dylan's gospel trilogy, Saved and Shot of Love.
