Redirected from Battlestar Galatica). Battlestar Galactica is an American science fiction media franchise created by Glen A. Larson. The franchise began with the original television series in 1978 and was followed by a short-run sequel series (Galactica 1980), a line of book adaptations, original novels, comic books, a board game, and video games. A re-imagined version of Battlestar Galactica aired as a two-part, three-hour miniseries developed by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick in 2003.
Created by Glen A. Larson, Ronald D. Moore. With Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Jamie Bamber, James Callis. When an old enemy, the Cylons, resurface and obliterate the 12 colonies, the crew of the aged Galactica protect a small civilian fleet - the last of humanity - as they journey toward the fabled 13th colony, Earth. However, the dangers they face are many, which compound an already difficult situation. Nevertheless I didn't like the idea of a remake, in general I don't like the idea of remake at all, it's typical of Hollywood to be willing to film something again, to adapt it to current taste, or moral.
Even hardcore fans of Battlestar Galactica can admit the original show riffed on various aesthetics from the original 1977 Star Wars, partly because special effects legend John Dykstra previously worked on Star Wars. Glen A. Larson was so worried about getting sued by George Lucas that he made changes to the show before they even started filming, including the decision to avoid using red laser blasts on camera; instead, the guns on Galactica simply flash and then have an explosion happen as a result.
But then in May 1979, Glen Larson was approached by ABC to produce a two-hour Battlestar Galactica telefilm that would see the rag-tag fleet find Earth. Meanwhile, ABC was anxiously awaiting the start of the 1979-1980 season, to see if its popular Mork & Mindy could take some of the wind out of Archie Bunker’s sails. However, only Lorne Greene and Herb Jefferson, Jr. from the original cast returned for the telefilm, which was soon expanded to three hours and scheduled to air over three consecutive Sundays in early 1980. The telefilm, set decades after Battlestar Galactica, would see the Galactica reach Earth only to discover that Earth’s level of technology was no match for the Cylons.
