Friedrich Gulda’s hitherto unreleased recordings for the RIAS Berlin, made between 1950 and 1959, reveal the pianist as a complete musician whose interpretations of works by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin . Album including Album cover. Formats & Prices. The public image of Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) is divided: for some, he is one of the most important Beethoven interpreters of the 20th century, whereas others perceive him as an enfant terrible whose battle against the cultural establishment and the constraints of the music business, which limited his multifaceted artistic interests and talents, became legendary. As ever, such generalisations are both true and false.

Friedrich Gulda – Aria (Solo Version). Friedrich Gulda (16 May 1930 – 27 January 2000) was an Austrian pianist and composer who worked in both the classical and jazz fields. Born in Vienna as the son of a teacher, Gulda began learning to play the piano from Felix Pazofsky at the Wiener Volkskonservatorium, aged 7. In 1942, he entered the Vienna Music Academy, where he studied piano and musical theory under Bruno Seidlhofer and Joseph Marx. The rescued Mozart sonata tapes issued on DG are unbelievably bad in terms of recorded technical quality; likewise the Debussy Preludes and Bach recordings of the late 60s and early 70s. From the 1950s on Gulda cultivated an interest in jazz, writing several songs and instrumental pieces, and at times combining jazz and classical music in his concerts.
Franz Schubert: 4 Imprompus, Op. 901 and 6 moments musicaux, Op. 94 - Fryderyck Chopin: Ballades, Op. 23 and Op. 52.
