It marks the first appearance on an LP of two b-sides: Did You No Wrong and No Fun. Otherwise this was a cheap, rush-released album produced without any involvement of the actual Sex Pistols. Flogging a Dead Horse is a compilation album of singles by the Sex Pistols, released after their break-up, and includes the four songs issued as singles A-sides that were included on Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, three of their B-sides, and the six A-sides taken from The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle and one B-side, "My Way".

This album has some very rare cuts, and all of the best of the Sex Pistols. Flogging a Dead Horse is a collection of singles that the Sex Pistols released from 1976 to 1979. Most of the songs feature Lydon, Jones, Matlock and Cook, but a few of them have studio Pistol and future Professional Andy Allen on bass. Material from Never Mind the Bollocks and The Great Rock n' Roll Swindle are represented on this cash-in disc (the end of the album has a cash register ring).
