Todd Rundgren's Utopia - Live At Hammersmith Odeon, 1975 mp3 album
Factory's 2012 disc Live at Hammersmith Odeon '75 marks the first official release of this heavily bootlegged show from Todd Rundgren's 1975 appearance at the London venue. concert Utopia ever played, this concert does have historical import but, better still, this is one of the liveliest sets the group played during this early incarnation, possibly due to the bandmembers expertly balancing their heavy prog inclinations with Rundgren's tuneful solo work.
Todd Rundgren's Utopia is the debut album by the American band Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Rundgren (who was primarily a pop musician at the time) had decided to delve into progressive rock. Putting together several musicians, including three keyboardists, the album covers a variety of styles including funk, jazz, classical and even avant-garde music.
Utopia is an American rock band formed in 1973 by Todd Rundgren. During its first three years, the group was a progressive rock band with a somewhat fluid membership known as Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Most of the members in this early incarnation also played on Rundgren's solo albums of the period up to 1975. By 1976, the group was known simply as Utopia and was a stable quartet of Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sulton, Roger Powell and John "Willie" Wilcox
Of course, Todd Rundgren’s most rabid fans (ahem!) have had a tattered copy of this concert recording - the old vinyl was confusingly titled Nimbus Thitherward - for years. With the release of Live at Hammersmith Odeon ’75, due April 10 from Shout! Factory, we finally get a cleaned up, sonically stunning version of the old tapes recorded by the BBC for its Rock Hour radio program. Still, hearing this band as it comes into its own, and in a pristine setting, provides powerful jolt after power-pop-ful jolt.
Live At Hammersmith Odeon, 1975. Live At the Electric Ballroom: Milwaukee 23rd October 1978. Todd Rundgren's Utopia 1974. After five solo albums released between 1970 and 1974, Todd Rundgren organized the band Utopia, although he also maintained a solo career. On this debut album, TR's U plays extended compositions - three of the four tracks run over 10 minutes each, with "The Ikon" clocking in over half an hour - in a hard rock/heavy metal/progressive rock mode with little of Rundgren's usual melodic appeal.
