Mouse On Mars - Glam mp3 album

Glam is the fifth studio album by German electronica duo Mouse on Mars, released in 1998. It was recorded for the purpose of being the score to the 1997 film of the same name. However, the soundtrack was rejected by the director Josh Evans. In 1998, Glam was originally released by Sonig on vinyl, though a CD was released in Japan by Tokuma Japan Communications. The Japanese release also included additional tracks, "Snap Bar", "Pool, Smooth and Hidder", and "Hetzchase Nailway".

After a two record stint on American/Too Pure in the early 90's, the band took a break from touring to concentrate on recording. From this period came a flurry. Includes unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. Purchasable with gift card. Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album.

In 1998, Mouse on Mars issued music from a rejected film soundtrack that turned out to be one of their finest albums. As a collection of pieces initially constructed as sound cues, Glam sometimes feels like an album packed with brilliant but unfinished ideas. Three great albums could be made if the music hinted at here were extended and developed. For example, it would please me if the feedback drones refracted through a fine mist of distortion on "High Court Low Cut" lasted for fifteen minutes instead of just over three, and I think it's safe to say that if an instrumental on the My Bloody Valentine album that never was sounded this pretty it would have been worth the wait.

Despite the passage of time, however (most of these tracks date from 1993 and 1994), Glam contains some of Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner's most compelling material to date, and listens like a sort of combined laboratory/proving ground for the dauby, impressionistic abstraction later pursued on the 1997 Mouse on Mars LP Instrumentals and by Werner's side.

Although the film went straight to video, ‘Glam’ works as an album of its own, presenting the band’s most intricate & subtle compositions. The CD comes with three bonus tracks, ‘Snap Bar’, ‘Pool, Smooth & Bidder’ & ‘Hetzchase Nailway’, not found on the LP. The music alternates from quiet passages of peaceful melody to darker soundscapes & strange noises. There’s just enough sonic disturbance to break the quieter moments, just when the listener un-expects it most.

Reviews about Mouse On Mars - Glam (3):
One of MoM's finest works, it's better as an ambient/experimental release than as a soundtrack. Images would take too much away from the music, which deserves attention in its own right. Highlights include the wonderful Bolero-esque awakening on "Port Dusk", the brief industrial-meets-hip-hop interlude "Tiplet Metal Plate" and exultant closer "Glim", which fills me with joy every time I hear it. Clearly meant to be heard on vinyl - the CD reissue has some bonus tracks, but many of these are filler (most notably Hetzchase Nailway, 5 minutes of squelchy foreboding which almost kills the album's pace). The original tracklisting has no fat on it. The vinyl also has better bass response, which is key for many of the songs which feature low frequencies.
The three 'bonus' tracks that come with this re-issue were already included on the initial CD versions of this release. The LP version on Sonig excluded tracks 3, 4 & 14 that are found here.
Mouse On Mars made the soundtrack for this film called Glam (featuring Tony Danza). They rejected the soundtrack and the film flopped.
