There are many ways for an artist to reboot their muse in preparation for a new album. You can try the old-fashioned retreat from the city to a rural idyll; the time-honoured practice of getting it together in the country. You can travel abroad and immerse yourself in different musical cultures, or surround yourself with collaborators from outside your usual artistic wheelhouse, in the hope that their influence will broaden your horizons.

It’s giving me a heart attack-ack-ack blurts Merrill Garbus at the start the first Tune-Yards release in nearly four years. What’s it ? Take your pick – global warming (the funky single ABC 123 invokes Elizabeth Kolbert’s tour de force The Sixth Extinction), gender tyrannies ( I don’t wanna be a woman/If it means not being a human Garbus insists on Now As Then ), the weight of racial history (she interrogates the blood in my voice on Colonizer ).

Label: 4AD. Genre: Alternative. Merrill Garbus’s first three albums as Tune-Yards charted a journey from home-spun, lo-fi intimacy to confident, layered, studio-sculpted pop – a transition accomplished without compromising complexity or personality. This record, her fourth, consolidates that decade-long development. It’s an album brimming with energy, showcasing Garbus’s considerable vocal talent against a background of loose, rough-edged beats that could, in a pinch, be called house music

Tune-Yards, i can feel you creep into my private life. Grade: B+. In 2014, Tune-Yards delivered their most distinctive and widely acclaimed album to date with the synth-fueled sensory overload Nikki Nack.

Look, I can’t help it, my experience is colored by life with a child who has a trach. When he was an infant, I Googled celebrities with trachs so I could tell my son that he’s not alone, there were plenty of people who have been in the same boat. And that’s exactly what this song is about  . Reviews about Tune-Yards - I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life (2):
Signed copies are in open shrink, which is kinda lame if you care about that kind of thing. (Looks like they opened the shrink to sign it, then put it in a poly cover.) Great record though.
How else do you expect them to sign the cover?
