Nat Cole And The Jazz At The Philharmonic All-Stars - Nat Cole At JATP mp3 album

Johnson, Illinois Jacquet, Jack McVea, Les Paul". Manufactured and Distributed in Canada by Quality Records Limited. On this album you can hear a wonderful sampling of that instrumental ability. Nat Cole At JATP is breathtaking, derivative of nothing, beholding to no one, able to stand on its own, stand the test of time, one of my top 25 jazz albums, and of all things, recorded in July of 1944, right at the heart of the golden age of jazz, when Nat Cole fronted his own trio, and nightly exhibited his unique creativity. While these recordings were originally cut and issued as 78 rpm's, the recording quality was certainly not up to par with today's standards.

Jazz at the Philharmonic.

Illinois Jacquet, Nat King Cole and Les Paul, in particular, created a sensation. The title of the concert had been shortened by the printer of the advertising supplements from "A Jazz Concert at the Philharmonic Auditorium" to "Jazz at the Philharmonic".

Les Paul & Nat King Cole). More from this artist.

In 1944, producer Norman Granz organized a concert billed as "Jazz at the Philharmonic" (also JATP) as a fundraiser in Los Angeles. The event, which was recorded, featured Illinois Jacquet, Jack McVea, . Johnson, Shorty Sherock, and a rhythm section with Nat King Cole and Les Paul; Jacquet's playing in particular caused a bit of a sensation. After a few more similar events, Granz in 1946 began organizing extensive annual tours using classic swing and bop musicians in a jam-session setting.

Illinois Jacquet,Nat King Cole and Les Paul, in particular, created asensation. The title of the concert had been shortenedby the printer of the advertising supplements from AJazz Concert at the Philharmonic Auditorium to Jazzat the Philharmonic. Only one copyof the rst concert program is known to exist. Norman Granz recorded many JATP concerts, andsold or leased (from 1945 to 1947) the recordingsto Asch/Disc/Stinson Records (record producer MosesAschs labels). Later, from 1948 to 1953, Granzleased the recordings to Mercury.

But his earliest sides appeared on a range of labels, including, but not limited to, Decca, Keynote, and Mercury. The JATP sides cover a Jazz at the Philharmonic concert from 1944 where Cole's piano was heard (faintly) with a jam session including flamboyant, roof-raising solos from Les Paul, Illinois Jacquet, and . Johnson, among others. Cole's modesty in these circumstances is humbling.
