Marianne Faithfull - The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan mp3 album
The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" is a song by American poet and songwriter Shel Silverstein. It was originally recorded by Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, with the name spelled "Jordon". The song describes the disillusionment and mental deterioration of a suburban housewife, who climbs to a rooftop "when the laughter grew too loud". The song was recorded by the English singer Marianne Faithfull for her 1979 album Broken English
The evening sun touched gently on The eyes of Lucy Jordan On the roof top where she climbed When all the laughter grew too loud And she bowed and curtsied to the man Who reached and offered her his hand And he led her down to the long white car That waited past the crowd. At the age of thirty-seven She knew she'd found forever As she rode along through Paris With the warm wind in her hair.
Artist: Marianne Faithfull. Album: Miscellaneous. The morning sun touched lightly on the eyes of Lucy Jordan In a white suburban bedroom in a white suburban town. And she lay there neath the covers dreaming of a thousand lovers til the world turned to orange and the room went spinning round. At the age of 37 she realized she'd never ride through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in her hair So she let the phone keep ringing as she sat there softly singing pretty nursery rhymes she'd memorized in her Daddy's easy chair.

In June 2007, when she was interviewed extensively for ITV's The South Bank Show, Marianne Faithfull said that when she heard the song she identified with it immediately. She said too that some people misinterpret the song thinking the story ends in suicide. In fact, although Lucy Jordan climbs onto the roof she doesn't jump but is taken away in an ambulance - to a mental hospital. When she climbs into the ambulance she is so far gone that she imagines she is riding through Paris in a sports car, something she had always dreamed about, as stated in the song.
