The quite detailed and lengthy historical liner notes on the CD reissue of this rarity give the impression that principal creator Mark Wirtz thought he was devising an arty song cycle of sorts, or a movie on record. What it sounds like, however, is a collection of fairly unrelated unexceptional pop songs, decorated by occasionally ambitious grandiose instrumentation that sometimes puts it as close to easy listening as to pop/rock.

Philwit & Pegasus was a studio band formed by Mark Wirtz (under the alias of Philwit) featuring singer Maria Feltham ('Pegasus') and a number of leading session musicians, including Chris Spedding. They released their eponyomus album and one non-album single, 'Elephant Song', in 1970 although neither was successful and Wirtz soon emigrated to Los Angeles.

Philwit & Pegasus were not an actual group, but an odd one-off studio project by producer Mark Wirtz. In the late '60s, Wirtz was known primarily as the creator of rock-influenced easy listening mood music albums, and also as the producer of the fine British psychedelic pop band Tomorrow. Wirtz was co-writer and producer of Tomorrow's huge British 1967 hit, "Excerpt from a Teenage Opera," and at the time there was speculation that it was indeed a prelude to an entire concept album/rock opera. That opera was never completed.
