Watson, Bowers & Finch. Botanising On The Asphalt ‎(DVDr).

Has anyone heard of "botanising the asphalt"? It is a phrase coined by Walter Benjamin. I want to know if it means "the growth of plants on the street" or "the act of finding and recognizing such plants on the street"? Apr 27 2016 04:22:18. Does he "grow plants on the asphalt" or "find and watch the plants that have grown on the asphalt" or something else? Context: On a kerbside in Nicosia a single brick and slab of wood bear testament to the builder’s provisional construction of a little ramp for his wheelbarrow, whilst a piece of paper stuck to the street in Barcelona records the tread-mark of the tyre that flattened it into the patterned tarmac. This is what Walter Benjamin might have meant when he referred to the flaneur’s practice of ‘botanising the asphalt’.

S A A B presents’ WB&F Botanising on the Asphalt (live performance). This DVD could not have been produced without the kind help and support from our friends at Chapter, the Experimentica festival organisers, Trevor Turton, Anne Siegel of Steepways Productions for her camera work, Jennie Savage (also on camera duties) and John Ruddick. Primarily this is to be used as a promotional tool but we do need to sell a few to cover production costs.

Finch was an American post-hardcore band from Temecula, California. The band released an EP Falling Into Place and two full-length albums, What It Is to Burn and Say Hello to Sunshine before declaring a hiatus in 2006. Finch reformed in 2007, playing a reunion show on November 23 at the Glasshouse in Pomona, California. They released a self-titled EP a year later, and were in the process of writing their third studio album when they disbanded in late 2010.

Current City and Home Town.

Performed with Ian Watson and Richard Bowers as ‘SAAB’. Using a series of looped footage clips taken from the minutiae of the ‘urban landscape’ activated via guitars and drums. Taken from Walter Benjamin’s reference to the unwitting psychogeographical practices of the urban flâneur as a way of experiencing the city as a repository of collective memory by means of a dérive.
