La Traviata is one of Verdi’s most perfect operas, and also his most personal. The two principal characters face an issue that Verdi was confronted with himself. After the tragic death of his first wife and his two small children when the composer was not yet 30, Verdi eventually found a life partner in the person of a talented, intelligent, lively soprano named Giuseppina Strepponi. But she had a past, including children born out of wedlock.

2. Act 1. Introduzione.

La traviata (Italian:, The Fallen Woman) is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on La Dame aux camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils. The opera was originally titled Violetta, after the main character. It was first performed on 6 March 1853 at the La Fenice opera house in Venice.
