The Violet Hour is a play by Richard Greenberg which premiered at the South Coast Repertory in 2002 and ran on Broadway in 2003. The play takes place in New York in 1919. A young publisher named John Pace Seavering has enough money to publish one book. He is torn between publishing the gargantuan novel of his former college roommate, and perhaps more than friend, Denis McCleary. His other option is to publish the memoirs of his mistress, Jessie Brewster

The Violet Hour Lyrics. Terraces that climb like vines Towards the moon, the five a sides The evening inter-city lights I see your face each time I close my eyes. Jude, I told you yesterday that I know nothing All my friends are loaded and they smile Picking up the pieces from a bleary night away Exhaust fumes, magnolias and light. Helen in the art class light Yes, I guess that if I stay, I'll stay all night And I know that you're not afraid But every time I close my eyes I see your face.
The Violet Hour biography THE VIOLET HOUR was a UK-based band, who got a chance to earn fame and fortune when they were signed by CBS in 1990. Doris Brendel (vocals, flute, acoustic guitar) may in retrospect be seen as the star, perhaps mostly due to being the daughter of acclaimed pianist Alfred Brendel. Her strong vocal performance did make quite an impact though, and was by some compared to Janis Joplin in style. With such an intriguing album title, such a gloomy sleeve picture and such a strong opening track, I just had to check out The Fire Sermon by The Violet Hour. Vocalist Doris Brendel is a truly gorgeous woman with an absolutely gorgeous voice and the eight minute plus opener Dream Of Me is a simply wonderful piece of mellow, progressive music.
The hazy vocals and languid guitar combine for a sound that, while not overly inventive, is distinct in its A virtually perfect mood album. The hazy vocals and languid guitar combine for a sound that, while not overly inventive, is distinct in its own right. Think Belle and Sebastian with more distortion.
The band has released so many lovely singles and EPs in the five years prior to this album that it seems like a full-length release must have come out a few years ago (2001's singles collection Suburban Light doesn't count). The wait was well worth it, though; The Violet Hour not only perfects the gorgeously hazy pop of their previous releases, it also adds a guileless freshness to it that is completely apt for their debut album
