The Ultramagnetic MCs released a new school classic in 1988, Critical Beatdown, introducing many new sampling techniques. Many believe that without the group's primary producer, Ced Gee, the golden era of sampling may have looked very different. Alternate mixes of this album's songs along with unreleased tracks from the sessions have appeared on later compilations. The song Poppa Large, remixed by Da Beatminerz became a hit and remains a staple of Kool Keith's live show. The song's video featured Keith in a straightjacket, his bald head encased in a birdcage. 1993's The Four Horsemen was considered extremely strange though still brilliant, offering a darker, jazzier sound.

Tim Dog became an unofficial member in 1,989. In 1,990, DJ Jaycee was added as Roadmanager and backup DJ. A former member, Rooney Roon, was fired following an assault arrest. Beat-boxing legend Rahzel was also involved with the group early in its career. The group's work was associated with unorthodox sampling, polysyllabic rhymes, and bizarre lyrical imagery.

If only Keith could get into this mindset for one more album i would be a very happy man

Similar to the "Soul Clap EP" from Showbiz & A.G., this used to be one of the most desired 12" from the 90ties, for a Hip-Hop DJ / collector of that time. The wordplay & that attitude, pfff...
Dagdardana
cool cool cool james brown samples on this one but ultra magnetic.

Original Pressing has etched "866-733-1-A"/"866-733-1-B" in run-out groove. It has also written "Printed in U.S.A." on the back of the cover. There has never been an offical reissue of this 12 inch. The bootleg has "55317E1/A" etched in run-out groove. Cover and label printings are blurry and they don't have written "Printed in U.S.A." on the back of the cover.

to the GZ dickrider: this was definitely pressed there, you can tell from the matrix number

this bootleg was pressed at GZ Vinyl in the Czech Republic like the Main Source bootleg 12" that came out around 2002

A large amount of the Mercury rap catologue was re-released around 2004 - 2005 including this record by the Ultramagnetic MC's. You can tell the differecnce as if you look at the label of the record it's a Dark Blue/Purply colour whereas the original was a lighter blue. Also the sleeve on the rear looks a little blurred on the re-issue
